Critique author's bias
Students learn how to infer and critique an author's bias. Bias is an attitude or belief system - it may be 'well thought out' or unconscious. We all have a bias of one kind or another. An author may be racist, sexist, inclusive, bigoted, religious, atheist, right wing, left wing, hard line, moderate, fascist, democratic, liberal, conservative, innovative, pro-industry, pro-environment, optimistic, negative etc. As an extension task, ask students to challenge the author's viewpoint, taking an opposing viewpoint.
